The Road to Guantanamo is a British 2006 docudrama directed by Michael Winterbottom and Mat Whitecross about the incarceration of three British detainees (the ‘Tipton Three’) at a detainment camp in Guantánamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba. It premiered at the Berlinale on 14 February 2006 and won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary Feature.

The film documents the personal accounts of Ruhal Ahmed, Asif Iqbal and Shafiq Rasul (the ‘Tipton Three’);[1][3][4] three young British men from Tipton in the West Midlands of Pakistani and Bangladeshi origins who travelled to Pakistan in September 2001 just days after the September 11 terrorist attacks in the USA, ostensibly to a wedding of a friend of theirs. While staying at a mosque in Karachi, the three decided to take a rash and dangerous trip to Afghanistan to see first-hand the encounters of the region.
Mixed with interviews with the three men themselves, and archive news footage from the period, the film contains an account of the three men’s experiences from their travels into Afghanistan and to their capture and imprisonment.
Imprisoned at a base at Mazar-e Sharif, they were interrogated and discovered to be of British origin. With no luggage, money, passports, Ruhal, Asif, and Shafiq were handed over to the United States military and imprisoned in a US army stockade for a month with other prisoners, being regularly interrogated and occasionally beaten by US soldiers.
In January 2002, the ‘Tipton Three’ were declared “enemy combatants” by the US military, and flown with dozens of other alleged Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters to Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, where they remained for the next two years. They were held in mostly solitary confinement without charge or legal representation.
The Tipton Three were all released without charge and without any compensation for their imprisonment in 2004. The three were flown back to England where, one year later, they went back to Pakistan for the wedding they planned to attend in the first place.

After the film we would like to invite you to take part in a short workshop on torture, during which you will be able to experience one of the common torture methods known as wall-standing. The participation will of course be voluntary and taking place in safe conditions.

We hope to see you this Wednesday.

â??The stoning of Soraya M.â?

9000 Aalborg. See the map here.

Free entrance!

YOU HAVE TO BE AT LEAST 15 YEARS OLD.

The film is based on a novel by an Iranian-French author, Freidoune Sahebjam. The novel and the film tell a real story of Soraya from a small Iranian village, who in 1980s was accused of adultery and sentenced to death by stoning. Sahebjam heard her story during one of his illegal visits in Iran, where he has been senctenced to death in absentia for his criticism of the mullahsâ?? regime.  He heard the story from the witness of the horror, Sorayaâ??s aunt.

The climax of the film is a twenty-minute scene showing the stoning of Soraya, which is why we introduced an age limit of minimum 15 years.

We hope to see you on Wednesday!

Volunteers needed – concert with Amnesty International

Concert with Amnesty International – Unity in diversity

Amnesty Aalborg is planning a concert which will focus on diversity, and our rights as humans to be different. Amnesty is, therefore, arranging an evening where we can celebrate, that even though we are different, we all have the same rights as human beings.

The program:

The concert will be held at Skråen, Nordkraft, in their rooms above the great hall.

The final date has, as of now, not yet been decided as it depends on the work process, and the number of volunteers.

The entertainment for the evening will consist of 3 amateur bands that will volunteer to provide both the music and the atmosphere, while the bar will provide the refreshments.

At the concert you will be able to find information and material on the many campaigns which Amnesty employs within the subject of discrimination. Apart from that, there will be many opportunities for those interested in supporting Amnesty and the work it does.

However, to make this happen, we need volunteers who are ready to help in the following areas:

                    Administration

                    Planning/scheduling of bands

                    Volunteers on the evening

If you are interested in helping, or you just want to know more, contact Camilla at Amnesty International Aalborg.

We are looking forward to hearing from you, and we hope you will come and support this project so that we can draw attention to Amnesty International and its fight against discrimination.

Regards from Amnesty International Aalborg!

Foredrag og årsmøde i lokalforeningen

tendai

Dagsorden

1. Valg af referent og ordstyrer.

2. Lokalforeningens beretning.

3. Regnskab.

4. Indkomne forslag.

5. Valg af lokalforeningsledelse.

6. Kommende aktiviteter.

Koncert med Amnesty -Unity in diversity
